Loloata Island Resort is Papua New Guinea’s best kept secret. A diving resort only a short distance from Port Moresby and nestled in Bootless Bay, Loloata offers an incredible array of diving opportunities and a welcome break from the daily grind. The resort island is only 15 minutes from the international airport in Port Moresby, but it seems a world away.

There are two types of accommodation available, an oceanfront room and a hill room. There are two rooms in a unit with balconies out front and private facilities. The wooden accommodation units all have sea views, whether they are direct in the case of the beach front units or indirect from the hillside rooms which also overlook the mangroves. All rooms have traditional amenities, but don’t expect all the mod-cons of televisions, telephones and internet facilities as this defeats the purpose of Loloata and ‘getting away from it all’.

Near Loloata Island Resort is an extensive reef area with spectacular coral growths of strange beauty and fish of uncountable varieties, shapes and colors.
Papua New Guinea already has the reputation as one of the best diving locations in the world, so it is no surprise to find Loloata is a ‘must visit’ on the dive community’s list. But you don’t have to be an avid diver to admire the beauty of the island resort and a bit of tranquility. Many use the resort as a chance to sit back and relax, but aside from the island’s relaxing attributes and a variety of island walks and snorkeling opportunities, the dive sites at Loloata are practically unsurpassed.

There is a variety of wreck and other adrenalin spiced dives for the more experienced. The ‘Big Drop’ dive is a sheer wall dropping into dark water where divers are likely to see sharks and stingrays, likewise, the ‘Tunnel’, a 12-metre swim through is another popular choice for experienced divers. The wreck dives allow divers to explore prawn trawlers, tug boats and a barge to name a few, all sunk for recreational use.

Loloata operates two dive boats. "Dive Loloata" is a purpose-built 9 meter aluminum monohull, designed to cater for ten divers and three crew. "Dive Loloata" features comfortable seating and tank racks, hot shower, camera rinsing facilities and dual re-entry ladders. GPS, depth sounder, plotter and radios complete the navigation equipment. "Dive Loloata" operates to dive sites all within 10 to 30 minutes of the resort. The second boat is a 7 meter fiberglass banana boat powered by a diesel outboard, able to carry 5 divers plus crew.
Night dives are available on request.
