Sipadan Water Village on the island of Mabul is built over water on wooden stilts and is constructed with traditional Bajau architectural design in mind. Part of the Mabul Island is also home to groups of Bajau fishermen who live in traditional palm thatched houses and gives the place the feel of times long gone.
The resort’s cottages are equipped with twin or double beds, private bathrooms with hot-water showers, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryers and ceiling fans. In addition, the deluxe cottages have king-size bedding, bathtubs and mini bars. Each cottage has a private sundeck with deck chairs. Choose from Deluxe Water Cottages, Standard Water Cottages and semi-detached Junior Water Cottages.
The main restaurant serves daily buffets featuring a variety of Asian and Continental delicacies. The open-air bar has a breath-taking sea view.
Mabul and Kapalai are probably the most exciting places in the world to see macro marine life in the wild and great for underwater photographers and divers alike. Sipadan Island is world-famous for its biodiversity and abundant marine life.
The Dive Centre opens from 0700hrs onwards and is equipped with lockers, showers, toilet and a common area for resting between dives with complimentary snacks, hot coffee and tea. It carries 4 Bauer compressors for refilling tanks, over 300 aluminum 3000 psi / 80 cubic foot tanks with American style "K" valves, rental sets of scuba diving equipment that are mainly Scuba Pro.
The centre equipped with custom -built fiberglass dive boats that carry 12 passengers each. Each boat goes out on 3 trips daily with a boatman and a Dive Master.
All Dive Masters are specially trained in the marine ecology of Mabul Island and will not only show divers the attractions but also share their knowledge of the marine life.
Because marine life found around Mabul Island varies greatly from that of Sipadan Island, combination of the two islands for diving make a diver's diving holiday more complete. Mabul and Kapalai is heaven for studying marine life and guarantees hours of fascinating diving with ample opportunities for photography.
There are about 17 dive sites in Mabul and about 13 dive sites in Kapalai. It takes less than 15 minutes to get from the resort to any of the Mabul dive sites by the dive boat and less than 15 minutes to Kapalai. Most of the diving in Mabul and Kapalai is very shallow with depths from 60 feet to as shallow as 10 feet; divers may get to see as many as 25 or 30 remarkable photo subjects including squid, cuttlefish, anemone shrimp, gobies with blind cleaner shrimp, porcelain crabs, juvenile batfish, harlequin ghost pipefish, mushroom coral pipefish, mandarin fish, dragonets and many more. These places are "macro heaven on earth".
The resort`s fully equipped dive center offers PADI and CMAS certification courses, night dives and dive trips to the neighboring Kapalai and Sipadan dive sites, only 25 minutes away. |
