Situated in the village of Laha and overlooking Ambon Bay, Maluku Divers is located on a peaceful beachfront plot where you will find ten individual air-conditioned bungalows set against a backdrop of lush vegetation. Minimum ecological impact has been made as no mature tree was felled to build the accommodations. This is a resort planned for divers and designed by divers and provides a new level of convenience and comfort that were previously unavailable to divers visiting Ambon.
Every spacious and comfortable waterfront bungalow has uninterrupted ocean vistas and is simply but tastefully furnished, with décor inspired by local crafts and techniques. All bungalows have an en-suite bathroom and a private balcony and terrace. All the furniture was custom-made locally. Each bungalow has a dedicated camera table and charging area where you can review images and prepare your equipment. The dive centre and restaurant are both on site. There are very limited options for eating elsewhere and hungry divers will enjoy the delicious Indonesian food freshly made from local seasonal ingredients and of course showcasing the spices that make this region so famous.
Meals are usually served at the open waterfront restaurant, or in the open air dining area right on the beach. This communal area is also perfect for lazy evenings swigging a local beer as you share the days’ diving stories and photographs with new friends.
The staff at Maluku Divers is a happy and attentive mix of local Ambonese, Balinese, Manadonese, their personality and dedication to divers, ensures that no-one is found wanting during the stay.
Maluku Divers has always been the only internationally owned and managed dive centre in Ambon and remains one of only two dive operations on the island. The excellent location of this resort helps Maluku Divers to offer high quality shore and boat diving to a relatively small number of divers on a large expanse of varied muck diving sites around Ambon Bay.
There are two large dive boats and one smaller vessel, all with powerful engines. All have shade covering their full length, with a small cabin that is useful for keeping things dry. Most dive sites take between 5 and 15 minutes to reach and night dives are regularly offered and are very popular as they are one of the highlights of diving Ambon Bay. Divers can do up to three boat dives a day and unlimited unguided shore diving, as well as night dives. Dive staff will assist with entry and exit along the rocky beach in front of the resort. A spacious camera room is a great boon for all that post-dive fiddling that is required. Maluku Divers offer a selection of PADI courses. Nitrox is available.
The Maluku Divers resort has a large emphasis on still and video photography, predominantly due to their location amongst the critter dives of the famous Laha region. At the end of the dive day, a large camera only rinse tank station can accommodate the largest of still and video setups. The large dedicated camera room has plentiful electrical outlets to allow 24 hour charging on well designed camera benches.
