MV Orion is a liveaboard with hotel standards and the diver in mind. A crew with over 13,000 dives assures that the "Big Fish" action is never far away. The team will leave no stone unturned to ensure you have an itinerary filled with the awe inspiring encounters that makes the Maldives so famous and that you will be waited on hand and foot.
There are 12 cabins with a choice of twin beds or queen size doubles. There is even a master stateroom that not only has extra space but also its own private deck area and Jacuzzi. The large sundeck is a perfect place to relax between dives and at the end of the day you can pull up a chair at one of the 2 bars on board and chat over the day's diving delights with fellow divers.
MV Orion visits the best dive sites in the area to see sharks, mantas and all the schools of fishes and stunning reefs that the Maldives are famous for as well as some well kept secrets. The Indian Ocean is blue and always inviting at a warm 27 degrees. The dive sites mix up adrenalin pumping drift dives with gentler reef explorations so there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Mantas are the big highlight and frequent the waters flowing between the atolls. Whale sharks too are not uncommon in the area. It is the experience of a lifetime to swim with one of these gentle giants who share the waves with grey reef sharks, huge schools of snapper, barracuda and travallies.
No 2 dives are ever the same in the Maldives One of the best dive sites for soft coral and fish life is Kudarah Thila. The marine life here is so abundant, that the divers have named it ‘fish soup’. The northern tip of Magaa reef extends into Bathalaa Kandu and is home to a number of grey reef sharks and white-tip reef sharks. Rasdhoo Madivaru is home to a school of Scalloped Hammerhead sharks. In the early hours of the morning they rise from the deep waters off the atoll into the shallower depths, accessible to divers. Anyhow, with Orion you are always in the safe hands of the experts.
Diving is carried out from our purpose built "diving dhoni” that will not anchor but will follow the divers from the surface. Every diver will have their own Dive Station with their own basket where for storing their diving gear, which will always remain on the diving dhoni. The system leaves the main boat free to handle accommodations, meals and social activities in a quiet atmosphere. |
